Well, I've decided it's time to get off my tush and begin my search for another endo. My current endo and I just aren't working. I've been putting it off for a while now. My last A1c was 6.7. I'm pretty happy with that, but I'd like it lower. I missed my last appointment with m endo...partly on purpose, but partially on accident too. I've not had an A1c done in 6, almost 7 months.
I've never stopped taking care of myself, but I am ready to get some help from a doctor. And I need to get all of my prescriptions re-done also.
I've been lazy. In the past several months I've made half-hearted attempts to search for another endo and just haven't done it yet. Today's the day. I am going to make a phone call or two to try to find out if I need a referral.
The sad part is that I will be driving over 2 hours to the new endo. I've decided that if I want to get the kind of care I want, I'll have to go where there are more than just 1 or 2 doctors. I am going to have to go to Nashville or Knoxville.
p.s. If you are looking for a new good addition to your music collection, try out Sugarland's Live On The Inside. It's a CD/DVD. And it's fantastic. Even if you aren't a big country fan.

I was in the same position a few months back. Didn't like mine, but really dreaded the prospect of going into Philly since I felt like that's where I needed to go to find a doctor I like. Of course I shouldn't complain about going into Philly because that's nothing compared to having to drive a couple of hours like you're anticipating. Philly is a 15 minute drive or a 25 minute train ride, but I hate paying train fare or bridge tolls, and parking in the city is usually ridiculously expensive, time-consuming and frustrating. If I'm going into Philly, I at least want it to be for a fun reason because that makes any peripheral hassles and expenses tolerable - the endo doesn't qualify as something fun though. On that note, if you're going to Nashville or Knoxville, can you at least add a fun stop so you also have something to look forward to and it makes the drive feel more worth it? Of course, if you have to take time off from work, that might not be reasonable, but it was just an idea.
I do empathize though, and I totally get your ambivalence about dealing with it. I hope whoever you decide to see is a doctor you like though.
Life is easier with a good endo on your side. When I moved 2 years ago I got a new endo where I was living (Ohio). I was a bit timid at first because I had the same endo my entire life, but it is the best thing I've done. I am incredibly happy with my endo. Even though I moved again, I decided to keep him because it is all worthwhile. Good luck with your search and hopefully you'll find an endo who'll you'll love.
Hurray for you in taking what is probably the hardest step - getting started!! It's so easy to keep talking about switching, but much harder to actually start making those phone calls. Good luck to you!
